Birth Doula Services

Pregnancy and birth can bring unexpected curve balls. That's why I take inspiration from the willow tree. One of the most valuable traits of the willow tree is it's flexibility. The weeping willow is one of the few trees that is capable of bending in outrageous poses without snapping. The message of the weeping willow is to adjust with life, rather than fighting it, surrendering to the process. The willow reminds us to let go and to surrender completely to our innermost selves and to gain a deeper understanding of our subconscious. Another powerful symbolic meaning of the willow tree is it's adaptability, the willow's ability to not only survive, but also thrive in some of the most challenging conditions.

What is a doula?

A Birth Doula:

  • Understands that birth is a key experience the mother will remember for the rest of her life

  • Recognizes the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labour

  • Helps the woman in preparing for and fulfilling her birth preferences

  • Stays with the woman throughout her labour

  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman gather the information she needs to make informed decisions

  • Facilitates communication between the labouring woman, her partner, and her clinical care providers

  • Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience

  • Encourages the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level
